|Description||Be able to determine safely what is running on the device. Probe for a SM first, and if found, probe its version numbers, and if not, try a FreeEMS packet, and if so, pull out all the info available.|

Available buttons on the interface could be influenced by this status.

There really is no "Connected to..." state anymore. I can still try to get FW/SM versions etc before the start of each operation, if you think it is still relevant. What do you think?
1. user load file and the load button become availiable
2. user hits load loader probes for SM version #, if that fails look for a FW data stream and get the version from that, if that fails assume the device is dead or blank.
